When you ask Mike Pfirrman what areas he specializes in, there isn’t really a simple answer. Mike has been an Executive Search specialist for 13 years. Originally, having started at another firm, he was asked to start a construction and engineering specialty practice in 1997. As a result of that effort, Mike has worked (and continues to work) with some of the largest construction and building products companies in the United States. After 2001, when commercial construction in the US saw a dramatic downturn, Mike pursued clients in the Heavy & Highway industry, many of which were multi-national corporations, some of whom continue to be his best clients today.
It was at this point in his career that Mike’s area of expertise took on new definition. Like many people that find themselves in a career they didn’t expect, Mike never planned on being a recruiter. He attended law school at the University of Oregon years ago to study environmental law and as he puts it, “save the whales.” Fortunately for Mike, he decided early on that he did not like law and his career path took him into recruiting. The dilemma for Mike was how to bring his personal interests in line with his career goals. That’s when, on the advice of a well-respected executive search industry trainer, Mike decided to develop clients in industries more aligned with his passions.
So with the common theme of technical recruiting, Mike now focuses on several diverse areas, which include (among others):
- Wind Energy (Construction, Development, Manufacturing and R&D)
- Transmission & Distribution / Power
- Construction & Building Products (with a focus more on Specialty Trades, Heavy & Highway, Ready-Mix Concrete, Aggregates, Concrete Repair Products, Architectural Specification Sales, Insulation Products and R&D)
- Unique Biofuel Development Companies – Including Cellulosic Ethanol /Algae to Biofuel and others.
Mike resides in Mason, Ohio with his wife (Carol), their two children (Rachel and Evan), and their four pets. Mike and Carol are avid animal lovers and all their pets are rescued shelter animals.
